OSSA Fall Protection for the end user is an accredited course taught only by instructors who are authorized providers from Astec Safety Inc, a licensed OSSA provider.
It differs from a regular Fall Protection program, as it has the content and delivery methodology that is required to meet OSSA standards. ( Oil Sands Safety Association).
Content includes:Fall Protection theory and statistics, Fall protection, arrest and restraint systems, the ABC’s of Fall protection, Fall Protection Plan and Rescue plan Calculation of the physics of a fall including Free Fall Distance, Total Fall Distance, Clearance and Maximum Arrest Force. Applicable legislation , Part 9 of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code, industry recommended practices, and the OSSA Code of practice.
Who it will benefit:
Workers going to height on OSSA accredited sites that would exceed 3 M (9.8 feet) or less for some worksites.
Only OSSA Fall Protection ticekts are accepted by OSSA member sites such as Albian Sands Energy Inc, CNRL Ltd., Suncor Energy Inc., Syncrude Canada Ltd and several auxillary sites near and around Fort McMurray. A regular Fall Protection program would not meet the OSSA requirements. If a candidate wants to take an Aerial Lift OSSA program, that candidate will need to take Fall Protection OSSA first.
Government issued picture i.d. is required to take the program.
Requirements of course:
Time: 8 hours plus time line to complete program and write exam Late arrivals may not be accommodated so leave in time to consider traffic and weather conditions. The volume of information requires full attendance by the candidate.
Theory: Theory on fall protection, fall protection scenerios to analyze, and a Fall Protection plan. Closed book quiz with 80% pass mark. Candidates must have enough ENGLISH LITERACY to pass written exam with no interpreter or outside assistance, as per OSSA standards .
Physical Skills: Participants must do a controlled weight transfer exercise with a harness they have donned. Candidates will briefly lift their feet off the ground while hanging from a tripod or anchorage without assistance. Participants must be in GOOD PHYSICAL condition. Candidates will also do a buddy check on harnesses and properly inspect a series of fall protection equipment to determine if it passes an inspection.
Exam: Closed book 80% pass mark. Good English literacy is needed to pass this exam.
Certificate: Successful candidates will receive a temporary ticket from Astec Safety, followed by a permanent OSSA Fall Protection ticket, valid for 3 years.
CANCELLATION and REFUND POLICY: Cancellation can be done UP to 5 business days prior to the seminar for a Full refund less a docking fee for credit card transactions . Such requests must be made by phone, via a confirmed conversation with the Allstar Enviro Safety representative or in writing (email or letter that is confirmed as received).
Students who register WITHIN the 5 business days prior to the seminar can submit a request in writing (email or letter that is confirmed as received) to the Allstar Enviro Safety representative for a one month credit for that course or one of equal value. Qualified substitutions of candidates can attend the program instead, with permission of the Instructor.
Students who withdraw the day before the class without substitution will forfeit their payment. Students who do not attend the course with no notice or are over 30 minutes late will forfeit their payment.
Allstar Enviro Safety and it’s representatives assume the right to cancel or substitute a course in which minimum registration is not met or for unforeseen circumstances. We will make our best effort to rebook the program, when possible and to advise the students or employers of the cancellation or date change.
