COURSE OVERVIEW
On most worksites, electricity is everywhere: in the panels, the tools, the overhead lines, and the equipment running beside you. When something goes wrong, it happens fast, and the consequences can be immediately life-threatening. This course is designed for workers who aren’t qualified electricians but work near electrical equipment and systems as part of their regular jobs, covering everything from how electricity affects the body to how to respond in an electrical emergency.
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Explain how electricity works and why it creates hazards on the worksite
- Describe how electrical current affects the body and why even small shocks require medical attention
- Identify the key regulations and standards that govern electrical safety in Canada
- Distinguish between the roles and responsibilities of workers, supervisors, qualified workers, and employers
- Recognize common electrical hazards on the worksite, including power lines, damaged equipment, temporary power setups, and wet conditions
- Explain what an arc flash is, how to read arc flash labels, and what to do to prevent arc flash incidents
- Conduct a basic hazard identification and risk assessment using tools like a risk matrix or field-level hazard assessment
- Apply the hierarchy of controls, respect safe boundaries, and understand your responsibilities under Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Select and inspect the appropriate PPE for working near electrical hazards
- Respond correctly to an electrical emergency, including what to do and what not to do when someone has been shocked

ONLINE COURSE DURATION
This course is approximately 90 minutes long.
PASS MARK
The pass mark for this course is 80%. Learners can make 3 attempts to pass the course before it must be reassigned.

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will receive a certificate of completion.
