COURSE OVERVIEW
Did you know that there are over 1.3 million registered commercial vehicles on the roads in Canada? While this may seem like a lot, it’s only a small portion of the more than 26.3 million total registered road motor vehicles. That’s a lot of traffic—and a lot of risk.
Though commercial vehicles make up only about 5% of total vehicles, they’re involved in around 8% of collisions—and about 20% of fatal collisions. These vehicles play a crucial role in moving goods and people, which is why strict safety and regulatory measures are essential.
In this course, we focus on federal and provincial/territorial regulations that govern commercial vehicle weights and dimensions across Canada. You’ll learn about height, length, width, and weight limitations—and how to stay compliant across jurisdictions.
By the end of this course, you’ll:
- Understand the importance of compliance with weight and dimension regulations
- Identify risks associated with overweight and oversize vehicles
- Compare legal limits and determine maximum load capacities
- Explain the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and its application
- Access your province or territory’s specific weight and dimension regulations
- Calculate total vehicle weight
- Locate regulatory restriction information
- Recognize penalties for non-compliance

PASS MARK
The pass mark for this course is 80%. Learners can make 3 attempts to pass the exam before it will be reassigned.
