COURSE OVERVIEW
An arc flash is a very bright flash of light and heat, which occurs when energy is released between two conductors, or a live conductor and the ground. When that current is released, it can be immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH) to anyone in the area. So, how do workers stay safe even when there’s an arc flash risk? It’s a combination of legislation, employer procedures, and employee behaviours. We’ll cover all three to ensure that you’re ready to safely navigate arc flash risk in the workplace.
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
• Understand the legislative requirements associated with arc flash risk in Canada
• Identify the hazards associated with arc flashes
• Understand how arc flash risk is assessed and how hazards are controlled
• Choose a method to proper PPE selection
• Identify the appropriate PPE for a job
• Determine the factors that affect arc flash severity
• List the differences between each type of approach boundary and determine which is appropriate in a given situation
• Identify who is and is not a qualified person, and
• Explain how to identify arc flash hazards and assets risk

ONLINE COURSE DURATION
This course is approximately 60 minutes long.
PASS MARK
The pass mark for this course is 80%. Learners can make 3 attempts to pass the course before it must be reassigned.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
Upon finishing the course, learners will receive a certificate of completion.
